  • Driveways: 4–6 inches to support cars and light trucks.
  • Heavy-use driveways (RVs, boats): 6–8 inches for extra strength.
  • Outdoor kitchens & screen enclosures: 4–6 inches with reinforcement.
  • Foundations for sheds or small structures: Usually 6 inches with compacted base.

💡 Tip: Increasing thickness by just 1–2 inches can significantly extend lifespan.

Code Requirements

In SWFL, local building departments regulate slab design to protect structures and drainage systems. Common requirements include:

  • Minimum slab thickness: 4 inches for patios and walkways.
